Calling all Photographers

Begay will talk about his artistic practice, career path, and development in working as a professional photographer. The program is funded through the generous support of the Chicago Woodman Foundation.

Rapheal Begay is a visual storyteller based in Tségháhoodzání (Window Rock, Arizona). His work activates cultural landscape photography and oral storytelling traditions to document and celebrate the Diné way of life. His recent work, Vernacular Response, is a photographic series that represents everyday moments and diverse aspects of the Navajo Nation. In line with self-determination and visual sovereignty, it contributes to a never-ending Diné past, present, and future, and reflects the serendipitous nature found within the everyday; art as experience.
